"Wir Schildbürger" is a German puppet show by the Augsburger Puppenkiste in 13 episodes from 1972. Loosely based on Gustav Schwab, the play is about the famous Schildbürger pranks. In the town of Schilda, the anger of the female population is growing, because apart from the town clerk, the priest and the gatekeeper, all the men of the town are traveling. This is due to the fact that the citizens of Schilda enjoy an excellent reputation worldwide and have therefore been accepted into their service by the high lords of other countries. However, since the women of Shields no longer want to do without the presence of their husbands, they threaten them with divorce. Of course, the men come back immediately and discuss what to do so that they can stay in Schilda in peace. The swineherd Georg Christian Trölsch has the saving idea: Since the cleverness and skill of the Schildbürger was the reason for their absence, they decide to act foolish and stupid from now on. Thus, hardly any foreign lord should be interested in bringing a Schildbürger to his court... Schilda, 1622: Schilda is a quiet town that has no men. The female population is getting angrier and angrier, because apart from the town clerk, the priest and the gatekeeper, there is no male population far and wide. Something has to change!
