Seven countries are seeking membership of the European Union. One wants out again: Britain. In North Berwick, fisherman Sam Lowe's crab and lobster baskets are full. Sam has been at sea for seven hours. Carolina works in London but has flown to Italy to visit her family. She has been out since 5am to spend a weekend at home. In Pianella in Abruzzo, her family runs a pasta factory, and her mum is very sceptical about the merits of the E.U. In Iceland, a young singer is preparing her band's performance. For Sandor in Hungary, the term at university has just ended, and he is starting a job in construction now, to earn money in the semester break. He will work flat-out, because his family is poor. Studying is expensive.
