Waste Land

Society/Nature, Germany 2001

Otzenrath was the first village to have to make way for the controversial Garzweiler II open-cast lignite mine at the beginning of the 21st century. Otzenrather Sprung is the first part of Jens Schanze's award-winning chronicle of village relocations in the Rhenish lignite mining area. The film accompanies some people during their last year in the old village.
