Toulouse-Lautrec is the great chronicler of the Belle Epoque and the entertainment district on Montmartre. There, close to his motifs, the short stature aristocrat leads his short, excessive life as an artist. On posters and lithographs, he depicts the vicious world of Parisian cabarets, bars and brothels with just a few lines and colored areas. The film focuses on his famous prints. Scenes from Huston's Moulin Rouge, archive footage of the original locations, a large Lautrec exhibition by the London Royal Academy, as well as interviews with artists, critics and collectors tell about the unrecognized outsider and his brilliant works.
